History:

The Philippines were first conquered and ruled by Spaniards. It was the explorer Ferdinand Magellan who set foot in the island of Homonhon in 1521. Magellan was a Portuguese. He then led and claimed that Philippines is under Spanish colony. He died when a Filipino-native Lapu-Lapu fought a battle with him where Lapu-Lapu had won and killed him. The Philippines were colonized by Spaniards in 300 years until 1898 when the Philippines got its independence from Spanish colony.

The Filipinos declared its independence on June 12, 1898 when they got their support from the United States of America and defeated the Spanish occupiers.
